I went crazy over the polka dot trend last year, and I’m still not over it, which is why I am thrilled it’s carried over into this fall. The blazer has also made it’s long awaited return, which is something else I am happy about.
I truly believe you are what you wear, and whether you like it or not, clothes can say a lot about you. An outfit is a form of self-expression; It is a choice. I think we forget that sometimes living here in the U.S. There are women all over the world who don’t have the freedom to choose what they wear. Here, we have the ability to use clothing to communicate who we are and how we wanted to be perceived.
To me, nothing screams GIRLBOSS more than a woman in a blazer. When a woman wears a blazer it sends a message to the world that she is strong, powerful and bold. It helps her command authority and respect -something I think we all can admire and appreciate.
I love this polka dot blazer because it embodies my personal idea and definition of feminism. To me it says to the world – yes, I am strong and powerful, but I can be fun and feminine at the same time. Basically -I can be whoever and what it is I want to be, and I’m gonna own it!
I carried that “juxtaposition” theme throughout my outfit by pairing it with jean shorts and knee-high boots- adding elements of sexiness and edge. As a petite woman, I think the boots add height to my overall stature. All of these pieces are something you might not normally think go together, but they somehow balance each other out to form a cohesive, unexpected look. With this outfit, I took the opportunity to communicate that I may be physically small, but fashionably big. I can be edgy, sexy, powerful, and feminine all at the same time. I don’t have to choose one or the other. I don’t have to fit into anybody’s mold.
What do you guys think? Have you thought about what you are communicating with your attire lately?
