4th of July is my FAVORITE holiday. Seriously, I love it more than Halloween and Christmas combined! My love for the holiday originates from family traditions during childhood and growing up in a beach town. Every year we would basically wake up, throw on our swimsuits, and walk on down to the beach where we would meet all of our friends. Us kids would spend hours swimming, surfing, and entertaining ourselves in the ocean under the warm summer sun. In the late afternoon, everyone would walk on back to our house to BBQ and continue swimming around in our pool. At dusk, we’d head up to our balcony where we would watch the fireworks exploding over the sea. As an adult, my holiday is spent a little differently each year, but it still is a magical day that combines all of my favorite things: swimming, bikinis, bbq, sun, and fireworks! I mean, who doesn’t love fireworks?!

With that being said, it should come as no surprise that I take my 4th of July attire VERY seriously! I LOVE classic Americana style, and Independence day is the perfect excuse to sport the look. When Wooden Ships approached me to do a collaboration with their new Americana knit sweater collection, I knew it was a match made in heaven!
About Wooden Ships
The company’s founder Paola Buendía shares many passions similar to mine: family & friends, travel, fashion, and the environment. She found a way to incorporate all these into the Wooden Ships brand which is something I really admire! She founded the company in 1992 with her husband, after a trip to Indonesia helped spark the idea. On another trip, they visited Bali where they fell in love with the environment and community prompting their decision to launch production there.
The couple owns and operates the factory, where everything is ethically produced. Over 85% of production is powered by renewable energy, and all they use eco-friendly oxo-degradable plastic bags for all of their packaging. Wooden Ships also regularly donates to many charitable causes that they are passionate about. The company practices lean production, where all pieces are made-to-order. There is no wasted time or raw materials on wrong inventory so they can focus on lasting quality and customer service.

I absolutely LOVE every sweater in this collection. Every piece is pure Americana but without being kitschy or over the top. When putting together an Americana outfit, it’s very easy to get carried away with red, white, blue, and stars and stripes. You have to be careful and not incorporate too many colors and/or elements into one piece or look, or risk looking like, dare I say it, a redneck!

4th of July Outfit #1: Blue Stars
I love this light blue style with the navy stars. The hoodie and lace up detail makes it fun and casual. It’s easy to incorporate into an outfit for any 4th of July activity or event you may be attending. Here I wore it for a day of bike riding with jean shorts and white sneakers. You can dress it up with white jeans and heels for a more formal BBQ, or just throw it over a bikini in the late afternoon dusk hours when it starts getting chilly!

4th of July Outfit #2: Red & Blue Stripes
I also am obsessed with this stripped red, white, and blue off the shoulder piece! It’s a fun way to incorporate all the colors of the holiday, but still remaining classy. Just like the other piece you can incorporate it into almost any 4th of July look! I styled this one to be a little more dressy with a denim skirt, white booties, and a gold chain belt for a little bling. This look is perfect for a trip to the bars during the 4th of July weekend.
As I’ve mentioned in other posts, I believe what you wear is a means of communication and a form of self-expression. I love how by wearing a Wooden Ships I am supporting a brand that shares the same passions, and values of my own. Especially on a holiday where I celebrate a lot of those things like family, friends, community, and my hometown beach environment.
Wooden Ships is giving my followers 15% off with my code “teeniegenie15” so get your 4th of July pieces before it’s too late!
