2020 is here! Get ready to sing to the tune of the blues – but not the kind you’re thinking. Pantone has officially selected “classic blue” as the color of the year.
What is Pantone?
If you’re not familiar with Pantone, it’s essentially the universal language of color, a system created to help designers and manufacturers all over the world, identify and classify colors. Every year the Pantone Institute selects an official “color of the year” to serve as inspiration for creative minds across all industries.
What is the Pantone 2020 Color of The Year?
The Pantone Color Institute officially selected “classic blue” for 2020. They describe the hue as, “a reassuring presence instilling calm, confidence and connection.” I think they are right on point with this one. When I think of the color, I am instantly transported to back to the Greek Islands and endless summer days spent relaxing in the cool waters of the Mediterranean Sea. Here for it!
Surprisingly, I don’t wear or own a lot of blue! This is mostly because it doesn’t exactly fit into the spectrum of colors that compliment my features and skin tone. However, as I mentioned in previous posts, there are many ways to make any color work for you, so I’m excited to try and add more of it to my wardrobe this year.

How to Wear Classic Blue in 2020
Classic blue is great because it’s one of those colors that’s easy to wear any season. It goes great with whites, browns, and beiges for winter, and more vibrant colors like coral for spring/summer.

Classic Blue Fashion
One of the few classic blue items I do own is this fleece coat I purchased at the Zara sale last year. With the unusually cold, wet winter we had in Los Angeles, it ended up being one of my closet staples. Fleece is still trending this year, and so are the cooler temperatures so I expect to get a lot more use out of it this season. Unfortunately, it’s not available anymore, but I did find a similar free people option here!

In this outfit, I paired it with white knee-high boots, another Zara purchase from their Black Friday sale. Good news for you – they are back on sale now during their semi-annual sale so get them while you can! If you are 5’3 and under, you can wear them as over-the-knee boots like I do. If you are 5’4+ they will probably hit just below the knee. They come black, khaki, honey, and ecru as well. I rounded out the look with a corduroy mini skirt and beige newsboy hat (I’m still about this fading trend, especially for bad hair days!). Since head-to-toe neutral has been my signature look for the last two winter seasons, it’s a great way to mix things up without a total color shock. It’s also a great transition color for spring.
