While I agree a LBD (little black dress) is closet-staple must, I equally believe that every girl should have a good LWD (little white dress) right alongside it! In my opinion, the little white dress is underrated. A good LWD can be as flattering, versatile, and timeless as it’s black counterpart. It’s just about finding the right one for you!
There are a lot of myths floating around out there about the little white dress that I am about to debunk. I am also sharing the newest addition to my wardrobe, and some of my favorite picks you can shop right now!
Myth 1: White dresses are only for brides
Just getting this one out of the way! Obviously, you shouldn’t wear a white dress to a wedding, but they most certainly aren’t just for brides. As long as you aren’t wearing a long lace or organza gown, no one is going to mistake you as the girl who’s about to walk down the aisle.
Myth 2: The little white dress is strictly reserved for spring/summer
No. I wear my little white dresses all year long! I think it’s now common knowledge it’s acceptable to wear white after labor day, so no excuses there. I think the reason a lot of people don’t wear their LWD in the fall/winter, it’s because they don’t know how to! It’s all about how you style and incorporate it into your looks.
You can style a LWD with over-the-knee boots like I did with both these dresses. I also added a leather belt to boost the fall vibes and break up the white. You can also pair the dress on the left with a leather OR faux fur jacket which I did multiple times this past season.
Myth 2: I’m too pale to wear white
I actually tend to think white hues look more chic and sophisticated on pale skin tones than it does on tanned skin like mine. Any color can look good on any skin tone, it’s just about finding the right shade for you. Creams, ivories, and other off-white colors tend to flatter lighter skin tones, so try one of those. Again, it’s all about how you style the garment. A bold lip, or a pop of color with an accessory can help balance out the look.
Myth 3: LWD are less flattering than LBD
Lies! Again, it’s all about finding the right cut and fit that works for you. This isn’t The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, a little black dress isn’t some magically universally flattering garment. It too can be unflattering and unforgiving if it’s not the right style for your figure.

My new LWD
I saw this dress in an Instagram ad and immediately fell in love. Not only was I obsessed with the style, I knew the fit would flatter by body type. The ruching and tie in the front draws your eye in to the waist, showing off the curves, but at the same time masks any potential pooch. The inverted cut at the bottom is great for petites like me because it exposes more skin to create the illusion of an elongated leg. I can get away with the plunging neckline because I am pretty small chested on top– bigger chested girls, for this reason this is probably not the dress for you (but check out other option below)!
The dress was from Choosy, an online retailer I had never heard of. I am always skeptical about unknown retailers, there are so many scammy companies out there nowadays, so you have to do your homework. Off the bat I was slightly nervous because the website product page featured an IG image of famous fashion blogger Danielle Bernstein (@whowhatwear) in the dress. A lot of time these companies rip off designer pieces and try and play off that the blogger is wearing their piece when in fact, they are wearing the designer. On top of that, the image was a static image and didn’t link about to her account which was even more suspicious.

I loved the dress so much though; I didn’t want to give up on it just yet! Even if this was a fake, I was determined to find out who the real designer was (maybe I would cough up the dough). I went to @whowhatwears IG account and did some serious sleuthing. About 10 minutes or so later, my investigative skills paid off. I found the same image featured on the product page and deep in the comments she confirmed that in fact the dress was from Choosy! Not only that, she stated she also had a similar one that was designer, but she liked the fit of this one better.
Jackpot! Confirm purchase.

The dress came about a week ago, and I couldn’t be happier. I think it’s such a fun twist on a classic shirt dress. It’s simple, yet interesting and completely versatile. It’s perfect for spring/summer, but you can also wear it during fall/winter with a pair of booties and a leather jacket. You can dress it up like I did for night out, or you can keep it casual – it even works as swimsuit coverup on a beach getaway!
In this look, I decided to dress it up and accent the deep plunging neckline with a bold graphic necklace. I wanted to keep the look dressy and on-trend so I also added embellished hair barrettes which are VERY in right now. I will probably also style this in the future with just a pair of bold earrings.
