Desk to Dinner Looks with Rent The Runway Unlimited: A Review

Petite blogger Teenie Genie shows off her Rent The Runway desk to dinner jumpsuit outfit on Rodeo Drive.

I recently partnered with Rent The Runway and became an Unlimited Member.  If you aren’t familiar with RTR, it’s basically just what you think it is: an online platform /service that allows you to rent clothes and accessories from high-end designers.

Prior to my partnership, I’d been under the impression that Rent The Runway was limited to formalwear and cocktail attire for special occasions (Weddings, special events, etc.).  I had rented a formal dress for a fancy New Year’s Eve party a few years ago, but that was my only experience with the service. I was surprised to learn that they expanded and diversified to include apparel and accessories for literally every occasion.  From coats, and dresses to bags and sunglasses from over 600 designers – you name it, Rent the Runway has it!

How Rent The Runway Unlimited Works

RTR offers one-time rentals and different plan options, but I think you get the most bang for your buck with the unlimited membership.  With this option you can rent an UNLIMITED number of styles at a time and swap anytime you’re ready for something new.  It’s seriously like having a revolving closet of brand new stuff where you’ll never have to wear the same thing twice.  You get access an unlimited assortment of styles, trends, colors, and seasons.  Items come in all different sizes, including petites (yay!) and plus sizes, so there is something for everyone.

One of the best things about RTR Unlimited, in my opinion, is the convenience.  When you sign up, all your sizing, style preferences, and shipping information is stored in your account, so all you have to do is browse their inventory (basically just online shopping) and select items to add to your bag.  When you made your selections, you simply click “confirm shipment” and that’s all you have to do!  The items are sent directly to your doorstep and usually arrive between 2-3 days.  I love this aspect, because I am a last-minute planner and usually don’t solidify my weekend plans until a few days before.  This gives me just enough time to hop onto RTR and order a cute new outfit to arrive just in time for whatever it is I have planned.

You can wear the items once or keep them for as long as you want.  You can return one item at a time, or all at once.  When you are ready to return, simply pop the items back into the garment bag they arrived in, place the prepaid shipping return label provided on the bag, and drop off at any UPS.  RTR handles the dry cleaning and insurance so you can rock your outfits worry-free!

A Rent The Runway unlimited membership is only $159 a month BUT if you use my code “RTRGINAV” you’ll save $100 off your first two months! Click here to sign up!

This is a great deal in my opinion and worth doing a two month trial.  The average RTR customers wears $33,000 worth of designer clothing a year, while saving money and time.

I am taking advantage of my Rent the Runway Unlimited membership to put together some designer outfits for a work trip to New York next week.  Whenever I am in the city, I am constantly on the go. I am running from one meeting to the next while trying to squeeze in happy hour or dinner plans with friends (and maybe some NYFW events 😉 ).  I usually don’t have time to run back to my hotel room, so I need some desk to dinner pieces that I can easily transition.  Rent the Runway has hundreds of clothing and accessory options, perfect to incorporate into a workwear outfit.

Here are some of my favorite desk to dinner looks I’ve put together with some of my Rent The Runway pieces:

Rent The Runway Desk to Dinner Look #1: Bold Jumpsuit

DVF is the ultimate go to designer for ready-to-wear statement pieces that embody the ultimate Girl Boss.  I fell in love with this striped jumpsuit the moment I laid eyes on it.  The retail price is normally $568 dollars, almost quadruple the price of a monthly RTR unlimited membership!  The orange/pink stripe combo with the black is bold and unexpected, but it works!  It’s edgy and fashion-forward, yet still highly appropriate for the corporate workplace.  Walk into a board meeting, and you’ll command the power and respect of the room! Because it’s a statement piece on its own, for the office I would style it without any accessories.  Depending on your after-work plans, I might jazz it up with some accessories.  Fun night out on the town with the girls? I might pair it with a belt, like this gold chain one I am wearing.  Got a hot dinner date?  I might keep things a little more sophisticated with my hair up and some statement earrings.

Rent The Runway Desk to Dinner Look #2: Mixed Prints

I have been looking for a good pair of striped pants for a while, and these ones from Derek Lam 10 Crosby available on RTR are the perfect pair for an office to “off-duty” look.  They are made from a light-weight cotton material and SO comfortable, which I need for those 16 hour days spent running around the city.  I’ve been wanted to create a fun mixed print look for a while and decided to try it out here.  Dark florals are trending this fall, so I thought this would be the perfect print to incorporate into the outfit.   I have been wearing this black floral top from Salt Water Luxe to death this summer, and styling it with many different looks. It’s super lightweight as well; perfect for those hot September days before the crisp Fall air kicks in.  Want to know a secret? In this photo, I am actually wearing the top backwards!  That’s right!  The top worn the right way is lose fitting with an open back slit.  As a petite, this is great when worn tucked into high waisted pants like these for a trendy office look.  However, to achieve a more form-fitting figure flattering look for out of office, I just turned the top around and tied up the open back sides in a bow to create a crop top! This helps achieve a fun happy hour or after work dinner outfit.

Another reason I am so excited to use Rent The Runway for my outfits for a trip like this?   I can return my items before I leave, so I will have an empty suitcase on my return flight home (or a suitcase filled with new clothes after some NYC shopping 😉 )
